Anser Journal

From the
South of India

By Meghna Anil Nair

Where I live
the seasons stay the same
we have oranges year round.

Every summer feels like the last
every day like the last mango
we bit into.

Secateur extract gently
mandarin, satsuma and kinnow
and it is like the sun never sank
the rain never fell.

From the window in the trees
the fruit is within my reach
Succulent succour while my city burns
to the ground.
